A year ago today I was on sabbatical in Switzerland, staying with the chaplain of a girls’ “finishing school” that the Legion of Christ runs in that country. I was trying to work on my doctoral thesis, but I was very torn up inside about the situation of the Legion, in the light of the news about the founder and of how it was being handled. I often sought peace and distraction in the beauty of my surroundings. These are some of the photos I took exactly a year ago, on May 15, 2010, capturing some of the beauty of the forest. Nine days later I moved out of the Legionary community and headed home.
Incidentally, I was listening to one of the Percy Jackson audio books during this hike. I think it was “The Battle of the Labyrinth”.
I think the Legion has left a bigger wound on you than I can imagine. I feel your hurt whenever you talk about them. I just pray that all the scars left behind by bitterness and betrayal may heal with time. God Bless you Fr. Matt !!
